People tend to minimize the impact of everyday trauma.
People seem to limit their definition of trauma to extreme events like sexual abuse, physical violence or overt acts of aggression. I find that my patients' health is inhibited by much more ordinary daily trauma.
Meditation makes us calmer, gives us perspective, relaxes our nervous system, improves our sleep, lowers our blood pressure.... so why don’t we commit and do it every day?
Trauma makes it impossible to be present.
When somebody endures a shock from a disturbing event that is greater than his/her emotional capacity to synthesize, it becomes a trauma. Have you ever considered what happens to the charge that moved through the system that couldn’t be metabolized?
There are so many people in my life that I wish I could see more often. In my mind, I make all kinds of social plans.
For with trauma, feeling safe is learned.
People who have endured any significant trauma live with the fear of not being safe. Even when the danger resolves, there is still fear within the psyche and it can be challenging to find peace.
What's Happening Now?
"What's Happening Now?" is an invitation in a BCET session to share what you are aware of in that moment. What do you feel in your body? Where is the greatest sensation? What emotions come up with that sensation?

Listen to your body when it whispers...
Your body is always talking to you. It’s telling you your food choices aren’t quite right when you have gas or bloating. When you are exhausted or can’t focus, you body is telling
Tools for conscious living are excellent preventative medicine
When we live consciously, we are aware of ourselves across many dimensions. We take time to feel and sense how we are doing. How are we reacting to the people we work, live and socialize with?
Unearth suppressed emotions from your body

Beyond talk-based therapy
I believe in the benefits of talk-based therapy and am so grateful for all the ways it helped me understand myself and become more conscious.
Eat food that nourishes and strengthens you
This is a photo of the black raspberries that grow near my house every year in late June. I love these berries more than any other fruit.
You are what you eat. Feel what your body needs
The foods you choose have a huge impact on your vitality. If you eat food that is processed, package or industrial, there isn’t much life/chi/prana in it.
Play is a powerful healer
Imaginative, unstructured play brings children into the moment and grounds them in their bodies.
If you child has a learning challenge, take time to explore why, in addition to remediating
If you child has a learning challenge, take some time to explore why. Look at the whole child. Learn at what’s happening in the household.
